Big Lie! Breakfast is NOT the Most Important Meal of The Day

What is Intermittent Fasting?

I cannot count how many times I’ve been told that I shouldn't skip breakfast… “ Carlos!! How can you last all day until after 5pm without eating anything!?  That’s really bad for you. I don’t know how you can do it’’.

Once upon a time, I had the same mindset until I educated myself on the subject. Let’s start by clarifying and saying this: ‘’Intermittent Fasting is NOT Starving Yourself’’.

What is Intermittent Fasting then? Think about it this way: Imagine yourself as a professional race driver and you’re about to go on a race. Would you prefer to start the race with your gas tank halfway or a quarter? How about a FULL TANK? Ahhhhh now you’re with me.

What kind of fuel would you use? You wouldn’t fill up your tank with Fourloko or Corona Cerveza right? You would fill up your tank with GAS because cars run on GAS :)

Intermittent Fasting consists of eating BIG NUTRIENT RICH meals under specific time windows. The MOST crucial part that most people get wrong is that they don’t consume the right amount of macronutrients which causes that awful starvation hangry feeling.

Here’s my hack that I discovered that made fasting 1000 times easier. The most important macronutrient that your body needs is Protein. PROTEIN. PROTEIN. Your body needs roughly .8-1g of protein per pound of body weight. I weigh 170 lbs. My body needs 170g of protein per day. Your macros intake is going to depend on how active you are and how many calories you burn throughout your day.

If you lower the amount of carbs that you consume and you focus on consuming the right amount of protein, I promise that you will start seeing results. After I switched jobs from working in construction to an office setting, I started gaining weight and I really struggled to lose weight and stay fit despite exercising consistently like I used to. I have been doing intermittent fasting for about 3 years and it’s been the easiest way to stay fit and healthy.

Now, let’s compare the ‘’normal’’ average diet.

1- Breakfast: A bagel or a donut with coffee

2- Lunch: A burrito, a salad, a sandwich, or a soup: This might be healthy but most people DON’T consume the right amount of protein that their body needs.

3- Snack Time: 2 hours later, you’re hungry again huh!? You have that sugary granola bar spiking your insulin through the roof. That’s because you didn’t consume the right amount of protein during lunch.

4- Dinner: A delicious pasta loaded with nothing but carbs. How about pizza? Or a burger with fries? Ramen? Sushi?  I love ramen noodles and sushi. These are all delicious meals. BUT if this is what you have for dinner, that’s why you’re starving first thing in the morning

I could talk for hours about intermittent fasting and health tips. If you want to learn more health tips, I encourage you to follow Thomas Delauer and Dr Berg on social media. They’re the experts that I constantly keep learning from. Also, consider hiring a licensed dietitian. The bottom line is: Intermittent fasting is an amazing way to stay healthy and I promise that you’ll see results and it will make your life easier.
